In addition to starring in May's Original Movie, Caught in the Act, Lauren Holly also served as one of the film's producers. She talked to us about meeting Janice "J.D." Holt, the real-life Nashville detective who inspired the project; her struggle to speak with a Tennessee twang; and which accessory from her flamboyant movie attire is now a part of her everyday wardrobe.

Q: What was it like filming this movie in Luxembourg?

Holly:
It was interesting trying to make it look like Nashville! I was one of the producers - a first-time producer at that - and I didn't realize what I was getting myself into. I'm in almost every scene, plus I have a dialect and 37 wardrobe changes.

Q: What drew you to this project?

Holly:
One of the producers brought the idea to me - it was very strange, because it reminded me of a magazine article I had read on some flight about J.D. When I was filming a movie in Nashville, I tracked her down and we talked; she was on a stakeout at the time. After meeting her, I became passionate about doing this movie.

Q: Was it challenging to learn to speak with a Nashville accent?

Holly:
Yes, my mouth is just not built that way! It was funny too, because a lot the actors in this film were from London and Dublin and they had an easier time with the dialect than I did!

Q: Did J.D. give you any sleuthing tips?

Holly:
She was a constant source of information. She also helped with dialogue. She gave me the line, "You're so hungry you could eat the ass end of a billy goat." I thought it was so funny that I put it in the script.

Q: J.D. told us you had the makings of a private eye. Do you agree?

Holly:
I think she thought I was an incredibly good judge of people. I can size somebody up right away.

Q: How are you two alike in real life?

Holly:
We have similar outgoing personalities and senses of humor. We both love to work hard and play hard. But J.D. takes chutzpah to a whole other level. She has no fear - I'm a little more reserved. At some point, I get embarrassed to do certain things, but she never holds back.

Q: Did anything funny happen on the set?

Holly:
I'd say the funniest part was just my wardrobe in itself. J.D. kept saying to me, "Well, that's quite a getup you have on," and then I'd shoot the same line right back at her.

Q: So you probably didn't take home any of your movie wardrobe?

Holly:
[laughs] I actually still have the leopard cowboy hat, which is really J.D.'s hat.

Q: Is it more challenging to portray a real person than a fictional character?

Holly:
When I played [Bruce Lee's wife] Linda Lee, people didn't know her as well. Same thing with Ethel Kennedy - she's a famous woman, but there is not a lot about her publicly. Playing J.D., I felt more pressure, especially with her watching me on set.

Q: So what's next?

Holly:
I want to turn [this project] into a series of two-hour movies like "Columbo," only this character is way more fun than Columbo. She's a ball of fire.
