There are some reality shows--like "Survivor"--that depend on
surprise for their entertainment value. And then there are those which
are predictable and easy to watch. If the latter option appeals to you,
then you shouldn't miss tonight's finale of "The Janice Dickinson
Modeling Agency"
Anyone with even a passing knowledge of former model Janice Dickinson
had a pretty good idea what to expect on a reality star featuring her
and a group of fresh young modeling faces.
It was likely Dickinson would exhibit all the traits that made her a train-wreck-in-the-making
during her stint on "America's Top Model." And she ceratinly
hasn't disappointed this season, as she has whined, argued and dismissed
everyone around her. Her moods swing back-and-forth faster than a monkey
on crack, and it's almost impossible to tell if her imperious behavior
is designed to play to the cameras, or if it's just so instilled in her
DNA that she can't turn it off.
Regardless of the psychological reasons behind her personality, she has
single-handedly made "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency"
worth watching during its premiere season. While the show is supposedly
supposed to focus on finding and developing the next new high-fashion
modeling stars, the reality is that Dickinson has continued to be the
only one worth watching in the show.
Throughout the season, the models have been almost disposable on camera,
and it's ironic that some of them finally come into their own during the
final episode.
The finale is primarily about cutting down the agency's roster, and that
decision-making process gives Dickinson the opportunity to act predictably
erratic. But the process also spotlights a few of the models, and gives
viewers a real sense of what some of them are about.
I won't talk too much about the winnowing process, since their isn't much
else going on in the episode. No one likes spoilers, although clever viewers
can figure out a lot of what happens pretty eaerly in the hour by simply
watching the teases for upcoming scenes.
I will say that while the episode will probably be pretty darn entertaining
for anyone who has watched the show all season, the big "event"
that anchors the end of the episode is lame and somewhat silly. Although
Dickinson almost saves the scene by wearing an outfit that looks like
it was designed by drunken clowns.
I won't claim that "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" is
great television. It is what it is, and how much that satisfies you depends
a lot on whether you're a fan of Dickinson and her antics.
The finale is worth watching, even if it's just to marvel at Dickinson's
ability to somehow create chaos in the lives of everyone around her.
