Bios: Van Earl Wright

Biography:
Broadcasting veteran Van Earl Wright will portray himself in NBC’s "Must See" Thursday comedy "Inside Schwartz." During each episode, Wright and Fox Sports cohort Kevin Frazier will analyze Adam Schwartz’ (Breckin Meyer) personal and professional actions in the segment "Inside Schwartz."

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Wright graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in broadcast journalism and later received the Young Alumnus Award from the College of Journalism at USC. Before moving to Los Angeles, Wright worked for CNN Headline Sports and then spent three years as a sports director for NBC affiliate WDIV-TV in Detroit, Michigan, where he was named "Sportscaster of the Year" in 1993. He also hosted network specials including the "Rock N’ Jock" specials for MTV Sports and ESPN’s "Beach Award Shows," and worked as a NBA play-by-play announcer.

For the past four years, Wright has worked at Fox Sports Net in Los Angeles where he anchors the nightly "National Sports Report." Besides his anchoring duties, Wright has hosted his own weekly magazine show featuring A-list superstars including Wayne Gretzky, Cal Ripken Jr., Kobe Bryant, Mia Hamm, Davis Love III, Tim Duncan and many more. In his 17 years of broadcasting, Wright has also covered all major sports events including World Series, Super Bowls, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Championships, major golf championships and a number of all-star games.

Wright’s further credits include appearances in multiple episodes of "Arli$$" and he will soon be heard as one of the voices in the upcoming Nintendo video game "Kobe Bryant’s NBA Courtside."

When not in front of the camera, Wright enjoys training for marathons and hopes to participate in the 2002 New York City marathon. He previously ran in the 1999 Chicago marathon and 2001 Los Angeles marathon. Wright resides in Manhattan Beach, California with his wife Shari, who is expecting their third child. His birthday is January 27.
