Bio: A former high school valedictorian and honors graduate
of Harvard University, Allen Chen recently graduated with a Masters
in Public Health from UCLA.
Allen has led backpacking trips for many different age and skill levels.
As director of The Childrens Outdoor Experience, he designed and
led outdoor trips for first to sixth graders; as a teacher, he led trips
of middle school students through New Mexico, Utah and Colorado; and
as a trip leader, he guided his peers on weeklong backpacking trips
through an outdoor skills program at Harvard.
Allen travels extensively, and has backpacked through Nepal, China,
Thailand and Indonesia. Allen has worked in Cairo as a consultant for
the Egyptian Ministry of Health and as a snowboard instructor at Lake
Tahoe, climbed Kilimanjaro in Africa, trekked through Tibet, and written
travel guides for the Pacific Northwest. He constantly snowboards and
surfs, and recently trained for and completed a marathon.
Allen describes himself as outgoing and adventurous. He currently lives
in New York, where he is a first-year medical student at New York University.
