Fans Of 'The Quest' Want To Remind You That It's 'Be A Hero' Day

I've generally pretty dismissive of the "Save Our Show" campaigns that pop up on a regular basis. In part, because many of the shows that fans rally behind were canceled for very good reasons. But it's also because the reality is that TV shows are only brought back from the dead for hard economic reasons. No network and/or studio is going to embark on a money-losing effort just because they like a show or because it's got a loud fanbase. There has to be some economic justification to bring back a show. And no amount of stuffed animals or anything fans might mail to a network will make the slightest difference.

A pretty formidable "Save Our Show" campaign has spring up around the ABC reality series "The Quest," which aired over the summer. The ratings were disappointing and it seems unlikely ABC would decide to bring it back next year. But the show was truly entertaining and imaginative in a way that you don't often see in a competitive TV series. "The Quest" was less about winning fame or money than it was about finding the hero within yourself. And maybe that is why the show's fans are so passionate about bringing it back for another season.

The show's producers launched a #BeAHero campaign as a way to remember the show and remind people of its message. Fans were encouraged to perform some act of kindness and let the world know by tweeting the hashtags "BeAHero" and "ContinueTheQuest." All the efforts were planned to culminate in "Be A Hero" day,on Thursday, October 23rd.

While I'm not sure the campaign will convince ABC to pick up the series, it's hard to argue with an idea that has a positive impact on the world. Supporting the idea is really an easy decision. It's a great sentiment and it's inspired by a TV show that really deserved a better fate.
