Rob Lowe And 'You, Me And The Apocalypse' (Video)

It's not uncommon for a hot television actor or actress to end up being cast in a couple of pilots at the same time. The way it works is that their contracts usually stipulate that they are committed to project "A," but if that show isn't picked up, they're available for the secondary project.
In the case of the upcoming 2015-2016 season, Rob Lowe was cast in both the Fox lawyer comedy THE GRINDER and the NBC/SKY 1 end of the world drama YOU, ME AND THE APOCALYPSE. Fox picked up THE GRINDER for the fall and NBC is now airing the retitled YOU, ME AND THE END OF THE WORLD as a midseason show.
Lowe is able to juggle the two roles because of a bit of fortuitous timing. Filming was already wrapped on the NBC drama when Fox picked up THE GRINDER, even though that show will premiere first. THE GRINDER is Lowe's primary commitment, but YOU, ME AND THE END OF THE WORLD is being described as a "limited series," which means there won't be a conflict between the two shows.
In YOU, ME AND THE END OF WORLD, Lowe plays a priest and here is the official description of his character:
Rob Lowe will play Father Jude, the Vatican's most rebellious priest. But beneath his irreverent exterior he's a deeply moral man with a profound and passionate faith. His world will be turned upside down by news of the impending apocalypse, and he will find himself facing the greatest challenge of his life. One that will shake his faith, force him to question his vows, and bring him face to face with his past.
Here is a Sky1 trailer for the series, which features the original title and the rest of the cast, which also includes Jenna Fisher and Megan Mullally.
