Monday's U.S. Dow Slump Also Hits Media Stocks

U.S. stocks dropped sharply on Monday, with the Dow off nearly 1,000 points before closing down 588.47, or 3.58%

Media companies were not immune from the sell-off, which seemed to be due primarily to worries about slumping commodities prices and a struggling Chinese economy.

Time Warner (TWX) closed at $69.81, down $2.89 or 3.98%. Viacom (VIA.B) ended the day at $38.44, down $1.43 or 3.59%. Disney (DIS) closed down $3.45 or 3.49%, finishing the day at $95.39.

Streaming media company Netflix (NFLX) was down $6.73 or 6.47%. That follows several similar down days last week. Sony Corp. (ADR) was down $1.26 or 5.14% and CBS (CBS) was off a more modest 2.46%, losing $1.11 to close at $43.98.
