Movies On Demand On Cable Schedule Update – August 2014

Movies On Demand delivers relief from the dog days of summer, with some great action, comedy and family titles making their television premieres on cable’s Movies On Demand.

Marvelous superhero, Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) makes an adventurous return in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where he continues to untangle the web that is his life.  In the action-thriller Divergent, Shailene Woodley is on a mission to discover the dangers of being “Divergent” in a world divided by their human virtues into warring factions. In the hilarious The Other Woman, a wife and two mistresses team up for revenge against her cheating husband, with Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.  A headstrong college student’s refusal to accept his professor’s atheistic beliefs prompts his exploration and restoration of Christianity in God’s Not Dead. The world’s most beloved frog is back… and so is his evil counterpart in the Muppets’ global adventure, Muppets Most Wanted.  In Blended, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler’s first date is an utter disaster, but the comedy proves that first impressions aren’t everything!  Silly family fun ensues after they coincidentally take the same African safari vacation.

Cable is the nation’s powerhouse in delivery of movies via the On Demand platform, representing about half of all paid movie rentals in the U.S., far outpacing satellite, iTunes, Amazon and all others.* When combined, cable, telco and satellite represent 84% of the market share, while only 16% of movie orders come from digital storefronts. This month’s list of indie offerings is bursting with big stars lending their talents to smaller films. James Franco and Emma Roberts star in Palo Alto, a film exploring the conflicting and evolving passions and emotions of high school life. The One I Love documents a married couple’s journey as they reignite the spark of their love.

A weekend getaway of college buddies after a friend’s attempted suicide releases hidden emotions, jealousies and the reevaluation of friendships in the critically-acclaimed film, About Alex. Fading Gigolo is a comedy featuring an unlikely duo: Woody Allen playing John Turturro’s pimp. Widely praised for their great performances are Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as lovers through the ages in Only Lovers Left Alive, a uniquely elegant vampire romance.  In The Two Faces of January, a con artist is connected to the death of a private investigator, leading to intrigue and thrills in Istanbul and Greece, with Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortenson and Oscar Isaac. Jennifer Aniston and Isla Fisher star in the comedy, Life of Crime about a kidnapped woman whose husband refuses to pay her ransom.
