Sony logoSony Corp. is hoping to bolster the bottom-line of its struggling television division by increasing the proportion of its production that is outsourced.

Outsourced TV production will account for roughly 20% of Sony's total in 2009, and a company spokesman said on Friday that it plans to increase that percentage to 40% in fiscal 2010.

The company is hoping the move will help boost its market share of the global LCD TV market from 13.9% in 2008 to 20% in fiscal 2012.

Sony also plans to cut more costs in its game business, which includes its PlayStation 3 console, lowering them by a further 15% in fiscal 2010.

Meanwhile the company will focus more on products such as lithium ion batteries, and Internet services.

Shares of Sony fell 2.8% in early Tokyo trading Friday.
