ISU Grand Prix Of Figure Skating: Skate Canada

Synopsis: Skate Canada is the second of six International Skating Union Grand Prix events for the 2001-2002 season. The Grand Prix series features the top skaters in the world competing for points and prize money. The series culminates with the 2001 Grand Prix Final on ABC, December 15th-16th.

ABC Sports, the network of figure skating, provides coverage of Ladies' free skate and the Men's free skate on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11 (4:00-6:00 p.m., ET). The competition originates from Saskatchewan Place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

COMMENTATORS: Terry Gannon, Dick Button, Peggy Fleming and Susie Wynne will provide commentary from Saskatchewan Place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

SKATE CANADA: Top competitors in the Ladies' field include four-time World champion and five-time U.S. champion Michelle Kwan, who is also coming off a win at Skate America. Her main competition will come from current U.S. Silver medalist and World bronze medalist Sarah Hughes.

The 16-year-old Hughes finished 2nd to Kwan at last month's Skate America. Also competing will be Russian Irina Slutskaya who finished second to Kwan at the last two World Championships.

Leading the Men's field is five-time U.S. champion and current U.S silver medalist Todd Eldredge and three-time World champion Alexei Yagudin of Russia. Also competing will be three-time World champion Elvis Stojko of Canada, current Canadian champion Emanuel Sandhu and 17-year-old American Johnny Weir, who placed 6th at the 2001 Nationals.

FIGURE SKATING ON ABC SPORTS: This winter ABC Sports will broadcast the State Farm U.S. National Figure Skating Championships for the 39th consecutive year and the World Figure Skating Championships for the 23rd year. ABC Sports will also televise a series of six International Skating Union Grand Prix events this season, culminating with the 2001 ISU Grand Prix Final.
