And Specials: Nicholas' Gift
Synopsis:Jamie
Lee Curtis and Alan Bates star in this movie, which dramatizes
the life-affirming true story of a California couple who transformed
the tragic loss of their young son into something that inspired
the world and forever changed its attitude toward organ donation.
In the fall
of 1994, Maggie and Reginald Green were vacationing in Italy with
their two children, 7-year-old Nicholas and 4-year-old Eleanor,
when Nicholas was shot in the head by highway bandits. When the
child was declared brain-dead at the hospital, his parents overlooked
their own personal suffering and donated his organs - a gift that
enhanced and saved many lives.
The Greens'
extraordinary selflessness inspired people worldwide and galvanized
Italy - which had one of the lowest organ donation rates in Europe.
Since then, organ donations have doubled in Italy.
