And Specials: The Outsider

Synopsis:
A frontier romance between a religious woman and a black-hearted
killer whose forbidden love is censored by her Plain Community.
A
story of forbidden love and redemption framed within the western
genre, THE OUTSIDER revolves around Rebecca Yoder (NAOMI WATTS),
a young widow and member of a Quaker-like religious group called
the "Plain People," and Johnny Gault (TIM DALY), a cold-blooded
gunslinger who staggers onto her property seriously wounded. Because
Rebecca’s religious beliefs don't allow her to turn anyone in need
away, she takes the stranger into her home. Rebecca sends for the
doctor (DAVID CARRADINE), but because of Johnny's serious condition
the doctor advises Rebecca that he should not be moved from her
home. Rebecca nurses him back to health, and during that time finds
herself attracted to him. Her son Benjo (THOMAS CURTIS) forms a
strong attachment to him as well. Her community objects to the outsider
staying with her, particularly Noah Weaver (KEITH CARRADINE), an
old friend and potential suitor.
After
much soul searching, Rebecca finally allows Johnny to make love
to her, only to be caught by one of her neighbors. Outraged by Rebecca’s
actions, her father and the rest of the community insist Rebecca
end the relationship and repent. At first she acquiesces, but during
her confessions she realizes she can’t give Johnny up.
