Cristina
Saralegui Says Goodbye To Daily Talk Show
MIAMI, November
29th, 2001-- Spanish-language talk show host Cristina Saralegui
has decided to end her daily television talk show "El Show
de Cristina'' after a 12-year run on the U.S. Spanish-language
network Univision.
"The Cristina
Show was a dream come true for me,'' stated Saralegui. "But I
also have other dreams I have had to put on the back burner because
of the grind of hosting and producing a daily show. Now, with
my new schedule, I'll be able to participate in projects I have
had to turn down because of schedule conflicts.''
Saralegui
is in the final stages of negotiations with the network to continue
hosting and producing "Cristina,'' a version of her daily show,
airing Monday nights at 10:00 PM.
"I will never
abandon my audience -- we've grown up together over the years.
My hope is that we will continue to grow through this next stage
of my life.'' Saralegui went on to say, "The only time you run
out of opportunities in life is when you stop taking chances.''
"Univision
has offered us a bigger budget to produce the prime-time show,
and we're very pleased with this offer,'' said "Cristina'' executive
producer Marcos Avila, who is also Saralegui's business partner
and husband.
This past
year, Saralegui inaugurated Blue Dolphin Studios, becoming the
fourth woman in television history -- behind Mary Pickford, Lucille
Ball, and Oprah Winfrey -- to own her own production facilities
to broaden the "Cristina'' brand into other ventures. One such
project is the co-production between Saralegui and Whoopi Goldberg
on a film based on the life of Salsa legend Celia Cruz.
Saralegui
and Avila's media empire also include: Blue Dolphin Studios, Cristina
la Revista -- a monthly magazine which celebrated its 10th anniversary
last month; Cristina Opina, a daily radio commentary program;
and Cristina's website: www.cristinaonline.com.
Saralegui
has been the spokesperson for AT &T for the past 10 years.
She recently launched her own signature Master Card in conjunction
with Capital One.
"The Cristina
Show'' which has been the #1 rated Spanish-language talk show
seen worldwide by an estimated 100 million viewers will end its
historic 12-year run on Friday, December 14.
