Television Continues to Arrest Viewers With a Third Season of
'The Division'
One of Cable
Television's Top Rated Original Dramas Returns With a Full Season
Pick-up
LOS ANGELES,
July 8th, 2002-- LIFETIME Television's original drama series,
"The Division," has been picked up for a third season of 22 episodes
from Viacom Productions, it was announced today by Barbara Fisher,
Executive Vice President, Entertainment. Executive produced and
created by Deborah Joy LeVine, "The Division" explores the professional
and personal lives of five very different San Francisco police
officers. Part of LIFETIME's captivating Sunday night original
programming block, "The Division" is one of the highest rated
original dramas on basic cable with nearly 3 million viewers tuning
in each week.
The series
airs on Sunday nights and stars Bonnie Bedelia ("Heart Like a
Wheel," "Die Hard I & II," LIFETIME Television's "Any Mother's
Son"), Nancy McKeon ("Can't Hurry Love," "The Facts of Life"),
Lisa Vidal ("Third Watch," "E.R."), Tracey Needham ("JAG," "Life
Goes On"), Taraji P. Henson ("Baby Boy," "Felicity") and Jon Hamm
("Providence," "We Were Soldiers").
"The Division"
features compelling characters with a strong sense of duty who
are deeply affected by the often senseless crimes they confront
on a daily basis," said Fisher. "Our viewers connect with this
very humanistic combination of strength and vulnerability."
"The Division"
centers on a group of inspectors in the San Francisco Police Department.
Leading this diverse team is Captain Kate McCafferty (Bedelia)
who continues to struggle with the politics of being the only
female captain in the precinct. Season two found Inspector Jinny
Exstead (McKeon) fresh out of rehab and trying hard to prove to
her fellow inspectors, and to herself, that she was up to the
job. Inspector Magda Ramirez's life finally seemed perfect after
taking her long-awaited trip down the aisle with her son's father,
but her elation was short lived when her son was diagnosed with
leukemia.
Like an avenging
angel, Inspector Candace "C.D." Lorenzo (Needham) pursued her
cases with relentless determination, but behind her cool, tough
exterior, C.D. was still dealing with the aftereffects of a bitter
divorce. Officer Raina Washington seemed to have everything it
took to be a top-notch inspector, but insecurities about her ability
to make tough decisions in the field may keep her forever stuck
behind a desk. Inspector Nathan "Nate" Basso seemed like just
another easy-going guy, but his colleagues suspected that his
wise-cracking exterior hid a more complex man whose pain runs
deeper than he'd like to admit.
In Season
three these characters will continue facing their personal challenges
while confronting the everyday heinous crimes on the streets of
San Francisco.
"The Division,"
which has been honored with a 2002 Vision Award and has received
nominations from the Alma Awards, Prism Awards, Imagen Awards
and the National Association of Minorities in Cable Awards, is
produced by Viacom Productions in association with LIFETIME Television.
Deborah Joy LeVine is the executive producer, Aaron Lipstadt serves
