Megan
Mullally and Juliet Stevenson Star in the Lifetime Original Movie
'The Pact'
Based on
the Novel by Jodi Picoult
LOS ANGELES,
July 9th, 2002-- Emmy-winner Megan Mullally, and Lawrence Olivier
Best Actress Award-winner Juliet Stevenson, will star in the Lifetime
Original Movie, "The Pact," it was announced today by Trevor Walton,
Senior Vice President, LIFETIME Original Movies.
Based on the
critically acclaimed novel by Jodi Picoult and directed by Oscar-winner
Peter Werner ("We Were the Mulvaneys," "Ruby's Bucket of Blood"),
"The Pact" centers on two families whose lives are torn apart
by a teenage suicide pact.
"We are very
fortunate to have two such well-respected actors involved in this
project," said Walton. "Juliet is truly one of Britain's finest
performers, and although Megan is best known for her role on "Will
& Grace," we are very excited that she has chosen LIFETIME
as a platform for showcasing her tremendous dramatic talent."
Mullally plays
Melanie Gold, a mother devastated by the death of her teenage
daughter, Emily, after an apparent suicide pact between Emily
and her boyfriend, Chris Harte, goes awry. Only Chris is left
alive and the lifelong friendship between Melanie and Gus Harte,
played by Stevenson, begins to unravel as they each struggle with
feelings of loss, guilt and suspicion. The mysterious circumstances
surrounding the pact, combined with Melanie's unwillingness to
accept that her daughter was so unhappy that she wanted to end
her own life, causes her to lash out at Chris and his family.
Megan Mullally
became a household name with her breakout role as Karen Walker
on the hit comedy "Will & Grace." Not only did this role solidify
her as one of Hollywood's premier comedic talents, but it has
also won her an Emmy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and
an American Comedy Award. Mullally's feature film credits include
"Everything Put Together," directed by Mark Forster ("Monster's
Ball"). Mullally has also made her mark on Broadway, starring
in "Grease" with Rosie O'Donnell and "How to Succeed in Business
Without Really Trying" with Matthew Broderick.
A familiar
face on British television, Juliet Stevenson is perhaps most recognized
in America for her starring role in the critically acclaimed film
"Truly, Madly, Deeply." Also well-known for her work with the
Royal Shakespeare Company, Stevenson is a three-time BAFTA Award
nominee. She is also a four-time Lawrence Olivier Best Actress
Award nominee, scoring a win for her performance in "Death &
the Maiden." Her feature film credits include "Emma," "Bend It
Like Beckham," and the upcoming "Nicholas Nickleby."
"The Pact"
is produced by Randwell Productions in association with Hearst
Entertainment for LIFETIME Television. "The Pact" is executive
produced by Randy Robinson ("Two Mothers for Zachary," "The Almost
Perfect Bank Robbery") and by Peter and Marc Samuelson ("Arlington
Road," "Tom and Viv"). Richard Finney and Terence Michael ("If
Lucy Fell") are co-executive producers. The teleplay was written
by Will Scheffer ("In the Gloaming") and Picoult & Finney.
