Show Guide: Arrest And Trial

Synopsis:
A couple of decades before the success of NBC's Law and Order used the technique of "two shows in one, " this drama used the same approach. But "Arrest And Trial" was different on a couple of counts. For one thing, it was a 90-minute drama, an odd amount of time even then. But the other difference was the way the crime was covered. In Law and Order, the cops search for the crooks in the first half and the prosecutors work to put them away in the second half. "Arrest and Trial," however, flipped the format, with Ben Gazzara starring as a L.A. Police Detective who caught the crook in the first half, while Chuck Connors starred as a Defense Attorney John Egan, who worked in the second half to set the criminal free.

Since Egan often succeeded, the result was that after awhile it seemed that either Gazzara wasn't much of a detective, or Connors had lawyering skills that would put Perry Mason to shame.
