Crisis? What
crisis? It's the everyday trials and tribulations that are the real
struggle for the Green family.
Get Real
is a family drama created by Clyde Phillips (Parker Lewis Can't
Lose, Suddenly Susan) and directed by Scott Winant(Cupid,
My So-Called Life).
Mitch and Mary
Green live with their three high school-age kids, Meghan, Cameron
and Kenny, and Mary's recently-widowed mother Elizabeth. It's one
big, (mostly) happy family, crammed under one roof, and something's
about to give.
Breadwinner
Mitch is always busy - whether it's closing deals, overseeing the
remodeling of the kitchen or avoiding a confrontation with Cameron
about his opposite-sex sleepovers. Meanwhile, Mary is upset that
she and Mitch aren't spending enough time together, and saddened
that valedictorian Meghan will soon be leaving for college - even
though that's just what she has decided her daughter should do.
And, when he's
not avoiding the school bully, freshman Kenny is trying to work
up the nerve to speak to his latest crush. But what no one realizes
is that Meghan doesn't want to go to college right away, despite
her mother's well-laid plans.
Only Grandma
Elizabeth, with years of experience, is capable of taking life's
ordeals in stride. She does not hesitate to remind her daughter
that, like Meghan, Mary too disrupted her mother's plans for her
when she was 18, single - and pregnant. And her advice to Mary and
Mitch about their marital problems? "Work it out in the bedroom."
This novel take
on modern family values is uniquely revealed through each family
member's perspective, along with their fantasies and direct comments
to the audience, as they all attempt to Get Real.
