Show Guide: Grosse Pointe

What do you get when one of TV's most successful producers takes a satirical look back at the very genre that made him famous? The answer: Grosse Pointe. Darren Star, the creator/producer of Sex in the City, Melrose Place and Beverly Hills 90210, has culled his years of experience in an hilarious look behind the scenes of one of TV's hottest hits: in this case, the fictitious primetime soap Grosse Pointe.

The onscreen melodrama of unwanted pregnancies, flagrant infidelity, and occasional bouts of amnesia are nothing compared to what happens when the cameras aren't rolling.

Johnny Lane (Al Santos), who plays hunky hero Brad, is a womanizing surfer who's lucky to be able to read his lines much less be a superstar. Courtney Bennet (Bonnie Somerville) is a "serious" Broadway actress who turns her nose up at TV, but can't turn down the money. Hunter Fallow (Irene Molloy) is the series' reigning sexpot who sees Courtney's cleavage as a threat to her star status. Rounding out the cast is young stud Quentin King (Kohl Sudduth) and his secret hairpiece; and Marcy "network connection" Sternfeld (Lindsay Sloane, That 70's Show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and her neurotic denial of this fact.

Shot in a realistic, single-camera style, Grosse Pointe follows the lives of young actors trying to adjust to the demands of their hormones and their instant stardom.
