Show Guide: Hype

SYNOPSIS: An innovative new half-hour sketch comedy show from former top Mad TV writers Scott King, Lanier Laney and Terry Sweeney (of the uproarious Felicity parody Intensity), Hype skewers all things hyped, setting its sights on popular culture and the never-ending media frenzy that feeds it. From The WB to MTV... Britney Spears to Prince William... Regis Philbin to Lil' Kim... Patsy Ramsey to Princess Diana -- no cow is too sacred.

Combining the talents of a diverse ensemble cast and three of television's hottest comedy writers, Hype serves up fast-paced, fearless satire and cutting-edge parodies as they lampoon television, movies, sports, fads, news, advertising, the Internet and politics. Framing the zeitgeist-of-the-week within pervasive pop culture icons, the show's creators liken Hype to a "Laugh-In" for a new audience. (courtesy TheWB, 2000)

THE CAST:
A year-long talent search of more than 3,000 sketch comedy performers and stand-up comedians resulted in Hype's gifted ensemble of five men and five women: Michael Roof (stand-up comic out of Atlanta, Ga.), Jennifer Elise Cox (actress, The Brady Bunch Movie, from New York, N.Y.), Gavin Crawford (stand-up and sketch performer with Toronto's Second City), Daniele Gaither (sketch performer with Los Angeles' The Groundlings, originally from St. Paul, Minn.), Nadya Ginsburg (stand-up out of New York, N.Y.), Steve Kramer (stand-up out of Kansas City, Mo.), Christen Nelson (sketch performer with Los Angeles' The Groundlings, originally from Cape Cod, Mass.), Shayma Tash (stand-up out of San Diego, Calif.), Chris Williams (stand-up and actor from Westchester County, N.Y.) and Frank Caliendo (stand-up out of Milwaukee, Wis.).

THE STAFF:
King, Laney and Sweeney serve as executive producers along with Joe Davola, Brian Robbins, Mike Tollin, Barry Katz, Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
