Synopsis: Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf's modern-day take on the classic procedural police drama, "Dragnet," continues for a second season with new faces and new cases.

LAPD Detective Joe Friday, the seasoned veteran who has seen it all, has been promoted to Lieutenant of the Robbery/Homicide Division, where only the highest profile crimes are investigated. His primary duty will be to oversee and guide a potent and experienced team of young detectives. Friday and these RHD cops are an elite group - the best cops for the worst cases in the economically and culturally diverse neighborhoods that define Los Angeles. Although a veteran of the beat, Joe Friday still has passion and energy that rivals and often surpasses that of his young charges. Through the voiceovers that are a "Dragnet" trademark, Friday will continue to express his viewpoint about cops, criminals, witnesses and justice, as well as about his new role as a (sometimes reluctant) mentor.

One of the individuals that Friday oversees is Detective Jimmy McCarron, a hot-tempered character originally from the Bronx and one of the youngest detectives in the RHD. Friday has his work cut out for him, as he tries to keep McCarron's anger in check.

Friday will also oversee Detective Raymond Cooper, a native Angeleno who is a family man and deeply spiritual. He was assigned to the RHD after solving a series of gang slayings.

Detective Gloria Duran was elevated to the RHD after a stint as a homicide detective in the rough Northeast Division. Originally from Texas, she's a keen observer and is well-trained in psychology. She knows people and has a gift for gaining people's trust during interrogation.

Detective Elena Macias has a military background that led her naturally to the LAPD, where she bootstrapped her way up in pursuit of a gold shield. While Friday admires her dedication, he finds that she can often be too serious for her own good.

Working alongside them is politically ambitious Deputy District Attorney Sandy Chang, who hopes to eventually parlay her current role into a job as City Attorney.

The original "Dragnet" began in 1949 as a radio drama, then moved to the small screen in 1952, running for seven years in its initial incarnation. It resurfaced in 1967 for three more years, starring Jack Webb as the blunt, no-nonsense, "just the facts, ma'am" LAPD Sergeant. (courtesy ABC, 2003)
