| Synopsis: Robert Lindsay (G.B.H,
Oliver Twist) and Zoe Wanamaker (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,
Gormenghast) star in a multi-award winning comedy by acclaimed U.S. sitcom
writer Fred Barron, whose credits include Seinfeld, The Larry Sanders
Show, and Caroline in the City.
Ben, played by Robert Lindsay, is a moderately successful family man
whose occupation as a dentist is entirely appropriate for someone whose
life seems akin to pulling teeth. As Ben himself says, "It's not that
I don't like my children... it's just that I'm frightened of them."
His quick-witted wife, Susan, played by Zoe Wanamaker, works as a
London tour guide - and while she deems herself a master cook, her family
have devised an emergency code system to warn when something suspicious,
like Hawaiian Medley Surprise, is on the table.
The sixth series of this phenomenally successful family comedy sees
Ben getting his house (and his life) back as the kids move away. But
then it starts filling up again. Nick (Kris Marshall) may still be away,
but Janey's (Daniela Denby-Ashe) back and spending more time at the
Harpers than in her flat, Michael's (Gabriel Thomson) still very much
in residence and now Susan seems to have adopted Nick's friend, Alfie,
who came for Christmas. With regular visits from mother-in-law Grace
thrown in, it's no surprise that Ben starts taking refuge in dental
conferences. (Courtesy BBC America, 2006)
