Trivia:
***Raymond Burr has always been a bit on the portly side. In fact, Perry Mason producers thought that Burr was too heavy to play the title role. Burr locked himself in a hotel room, starving himself down to a weight the producers eventually found acceptable. In later seasons, Burr happily put the weight back on.

***By the time Perry Mason finally lost an on-air case, it was a refreshing change of pace for the show, but apparently not for fans. After the episode aired, CBS received over 30,000 irate letters protesting Mason's loss. Amazingly, Perry did not lose another case.

***There was a aperiod of time when Raymond Burr did not appear on Perry mason due to illness. Among the guest stars who filled in for him was Mike Connors, playing attorney Joe Kelly in a 1964 episode.
