Update: Did TLC Fabricate Tweets For Ad Campaign?

It's becoming increasingly common for networks to include viewer tweets integrated into their programs and ad campaigns. But if you're ever found yourself thinking "I wonder how they found such a perfect mix of tweets," this post by Kate-Madonna Hindes might provide an answer:

The commercial featured a few tweets and the screenshots were shown on the air. When I did some digging on the usernames, (it was slightly more interesting than the show, itself,) I realized that TLC had fabricated the tweets. They were from accounts that neither truly existed or had tweeted the words shown. Whoops.

She has some great side-by-side screenshots of the televised tweets and the Twitter account pages, which are pretty amazing to see.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for TLC told AllYourScreens that the tweets included in the campaign were real ones. But the tweets had been collected awhile back, which could account for the fact that some of the accounts are now inactive.
