Court Rules Former 'Apprentice' Contestant Can Sue Trump For Defamation

A Manhattan Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that President Donald Trump must face a defamation suite filed by former 'Apprentice' contestant April Zervos. She had claimed in a 2016 interview that Trump had pressed his private parts against her and groped her in 2007. She filed the defamation suit last year, after he claimed in several interviews that Zarvos had made up the allegations to grab another "10 minutes of fame."

Justice Jennifer Schecter wrote in the ruling that being the nation's commander-in-chief did not give him immunity from being sued while in office. "In Clinton v Jones the United States Supreme Court held that a sitting president is not immune from being sued in federal court for unofficial acts," referencing the citing the sexual harassment suit that led to the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

The ruling means the trial can move forward, although it's not clear how long it might take for the case to make its way through the crowded court calendar.
