Report: Lori Loughlin's Daughter Olivia Jade Blames Her Parents..For Getting Caught

I generally ignore stories from publications such as People Magazine for a couple of reasons. I'm not interested in celebrity gossip and outlets like People are generally just being used by celebrities and their people to spin a negative story in the most positive way possible. But there are times when a piece is so tone-deaf and annoying that I have to crawl out of my cranky editorial burrow and whack at it like it was a pinata.

As you no doubt know, actress Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli were recently charged in the nationwide college admissions scam. Their charges centered around getting their daughter Olivia Jade into college and they went far beyond just faking an SAT score. They are accused of paying $500,000 20-year-old Isabella and 19-year-old Olivia designated as recruits to the USC crew team. Not only did the two young women pretend to be members of the L.A Marina Club team, they each took "action" photos of themselves pretending to participate on the team. And in the case of Olivia, prosecutors claim that someone filled out her college applications for her. And when her high school guidance counselor raised concerns about her admission to USC, Olivia's father allegedly confronted the counselor and convinced her to back down.

Now if you're young Olivia Jade, I'm sure that the fallout from these charges has been "embarrassing." And since she's lost sponsorship deals and other deals resulting from her career as an "influencer," then I am quite sure she wishes she has never participated in this scheme.

If you read the People Magazine exclusive "Olivia Jade Is 'Embarrassed' by College Scandal But Hopes to 'Rebuild Her Brand': Source," you probably notice up front that while the headline mentions her embarrassment & her business plans, it doesn't include anything even touching on an acknowledgement of guilt. Instead, the People Magazine "source" (which is likely someone who works for Olivia Jade) discusses how she "blames her parents for everything," and "She would have never gone along with it if she thought this would happen. Her thing is that she trusted her parents."

Grow the fuck up. You're a 19-year-old woman with a business. Your parents didn't do this behind your back. There's no way they could have done most of the things that have been alleged in the charges without both your knowledge and your willing participation.

You know what adults do? They don't use anonymous sources to throw their parents under the celebrity gossip bus in hopes they can get back some of their influencer advertisers. Sure, it makes sense to be mad at your parents and the situation. But it's also the opportunity to admit to your culpability in the scheme. Rather than use People Magazine as a way to gain sympathy. You did something stupid. We have all been there. But people who sincerely want to move forward and grow acknowledge their bad judgement and move on. They don't plant stories in the celebrity press moaning about how they've been forced to hide out with their model boyfriend in a secluded location in Malibu.

See, this is why I don't read People Magazine.
