Why Aren't More NBC Summer Shows Available On Hulu Plus?

Even a resurgent broadcast network like NBC is struggling in the ratings a bit this summer. It's fair to say that none of their new scripted shows are breakout hits and given that fact, you might expect to see the programs widely available through Hulu or the subscription-based Hulu Plus.

Instead, NBC has kept much of its summer programming off the streaming network. Many of its summer programs are available only online and are not available via the TV or mobile. It's a curious decision, given the fact that NBC is an equity partner in Hulu.

Here's a rundown of the NBC summer shows that are currently only available with the above restrictions:

"America's Got Talent"

"Last Comic Standing"

"Taxi Brooklyn"

"Welcome To Sweden"

"Working The Engels"

Here are the shows with new episodes that are available on Hulu Plus for viewing on your TV and mobile:

"Crossbones"

"Hollywood Game Night"

"The Night Shift"

Other broadcast networks have some streaming restrictions on the streaming of their shows, though those restrictions have more to do with maximizing ratings. For instance, CBS delays episodes of "Extant" for four days before they're available on Amazon Prime, in order to take advantage of L+3 ratings. Fox and ABC (also equity partners in Hulu) have generally made their new summer programs available on Hulu Plus the day after airing.
