Review: 'My Big Redneck Vacation Aftershow'
I suppose it's a byproduct of the fact that "My Big Redneck Vacation" has been a ratings success for CMT that they've now launched a 30-minute aftershow hosted by Tom Arnold. But if you're hoping to watch an aftershow as enlightening and entertaining as those for "Gold Rush" or "The Walking Dead," then you're going to be mighty disappointed.
I'm not a big fan of the regular version of "My Big Redneck Vacation." To me that show has always seemed more about making fun of rednecks as opposed to just showing that lifestyle in an entertaining way. It's crude, obviously over-produced and barely entertaining. But it does have its fans and if you want to review the aftershow you have to do it by putting yourself in the shoes of a fan.
I suppose this aftershow would be of some value to fans, but it is painfully awkward and clunky. As a host Tom Arnold if frantically inept and seems to only have the slightest grasp on what's going on in the show. His questions are pedestrian and adding the lanky Brenna as a "Twitter girl" seems more an act of casting desperation than a move likely to help move the show along.
The "My Big Redneck Vacation Aftershow" is terrible, but I suppose in a weird way that means it's what you should expect from Tom Arnold and this cast of misfits. Thankfully it only last 30 minutes, but based on what I saw this week that's about 29 1/2 minutes too long for me.
