'The Voice' Final Five: Which Song Should Meghan Linsey Sing Next Week?

One of the big differences between THE VOICE and longtime singing competition AMERICAN IDOL is that THE VOICE has always had some contestants who can best be described as singers looking for musical redemption or a second chance. For instance, season three winner Cassadee Pope had already had a run as the front woman for the alt-pop band band "Hey Monday." And while things worked well for Pope, things haven't went so smoothly for veterans like country singer Julie Roberts, who didn't get any of the judges to turn around for her last season despite having had a Top Ten country album and her own CMT show.

So I suspect when country singer Meghan Linsey auditioned for THE VOICE this season, she wasn't sure what to expect. She had previously a Top Five country album and single as part of the country duet Steel Magnolia (which got its deal after winning season two of CMT's CAN YOU DUET), but her solo career had been struggling to gain traction. In segments on the show this season, Linsey has said that she sees herself as a country-tinged R&B singer and she's picked songs that bring out that side of her range.

But now that she's in the top five, it's time for her to show that she is capable of harnessing that power and range into a song that might be played on the radio. The tune needs to have some spots for her to soar, but she also does well in the quiet, subtle moments.

"Lost" was a 2004 worldwide hit for Dutch singer Anouk . Well, it was a hit everywhere in the world except in the U.S. Which means this is a song with tested commercial potential and yet isn't familiar in the U.S. Aside from the creepy video, the song is a perfect match for Linsey's voice. Like "Love Hurts," (which she sang for her audition round), the song starts aching and quiet, before soaring in the chorus in a fashion that sounds a bit like the power ballads of the 80s and 90s. It's a song that could not only get Linsey into the next round, but could get some commercial airplay here in the U.S.

Each day we're picking a song we think would be a great fit for one of the five finalists on NBC's THE VOICE. On Friday, we'll take a look at our choice for Team Adam's Joshua Davis.
