Crowdfunding Project Of The Week: Buy Joshua Malina A Movie Ticket

Joshua Malina
Aside from the fact that he's a talented actor, Joshua Malina is very good when it comes to social media. Following him on Twitter is a treat, as he careens between irritable and annoyed. At least on Twitter, Malina comes across like someone that would be great to grab a drink with, though I don't know if he would be my first choice for a companion if my elevator was stuck between floors for an extended period of time. It's a refreshing change from the typical Hollywood actor Twitter account, which is more concerned with self promotion than personality and entertainment value.

Given all of that, I'm not surprised that Malina has also launched a truly clever idea to crowdfund a project. Wish I Was There was inspired by Zach Braff's successful fundraising effort for his movie Wish I Was Here and the stated goal is to raise money so Malina can buy a ticket to Braff's film whenever it opens. But once you read the description, you realize that the project is actually a clever way to raise money for a favorite charity:

I'm not sure when Wish I Was Here will come out, so I have no idea how much a ticket will cost. I am therefore attempting to raise 9 grand, just to be super-sure that I'm covered. But I promise that anything I raise over the price of the ticket will go to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. It's a terrific national non-profit organization that is dedicated to ending hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds in the United States and Israel. For more info, check out their website: Mazon.org.

So, again...the first however many dollars go to buying me a movie ticket, and everything else goes to Mazon.

He set his goal for $9,000 and the deadline is in 60 days. But he's already raised more than $2,500 and part of the reason is probably the perks, which include the opportunity to bowl two games with the actor for $750. He'll also Skype with you for five minutes dressed in a tuxedo for $100 or autograph a headshot of Tony Goldwyn for $25.

Mazon is a great cause and personally, if I had the $750 I would quickly jump on the bowling option. Maybe if I can come up with $1,000, he'll bowl dressed in a tuxedo.
