Today's Song You Should Know: DB Cooper - 'Had Enough'

There is a tendency to think you can find out just about anything on the Internet. But there is a lot of music and bands that have just fallen into the rabbit hole of digital oblivion. Without hardcore fans to praise them or record sales to keep the label interested, a lot of bands release a major label album or two and then fade away forever.

That seems to be the case with the band DB Cooper, who released the album "Buy American" in 1980 on the Warner Brothers label. Their music is best described as "power pop," that genre in the late 1970s and early 1980s that encompassed everything from Elvis Costello to The Jags. They released their second Warner Brothers album ("Dangerous Curves") the following year and seemed to have lost a guitar player and added some keyboards for that release. But other than an EP that was released just before their first major label album, that seems to be it for the band. I can't find any other releases and other than the fact they were from Santa Barbara, there's no real bio of them. FWIW, the band was comprised of Jon Chapman (drums and backup vocals), Roger Heath (guitar and backup vocals), Robby Scharf(bass and backup vocals) and Ric Streeter (guitar and backup vocals).

"Had Enough" appears to have been the lead single off the album, and it really should have been a hit. It sounds like a ballsier Joe Jackson track and based just on this song, I can see why Warner Brothers would have signed them.

Enjoy.
