Today's Song You Should Know: 'Call Me Mellow' By Tears For Fears

The 2004 album "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending" was a notable release for Tears For Fears because Curt Smith had rejoined the band after parting company with co-founder Roland Orzabal in 1991. Orzabal had released the albums Elemental (1993) and Raoul and the Kings of Spain (1995) under the Tears For Fears name, but it's fair to say the reception to both was muted compared to the band's 1980s heyday.

The track "Closest Thing To Heaven" became the band's first Top 40 hit in the U.K. since 1990, but the album was barely noticed in the U.S., where it sold well below 100,000 copies. But the album included some really strong tunes, including the Beatles-inspired "Call Me Mellow." It doesn't sound much like classic "Tears For Fears," but it's a magnificently airy piece of ear candy that is the perfect song to blast while you're driving along some quiet beach-front road.
