The Weirdest NBC Promo Of All Time

Art Clokey was the creator of the beloved animated clay characters Gumby and Pokey, as well as the religious-oriented Davey and Goliath. Gumby and Pokey was first seen on television in 1956 on "The Howdy Doody Show," but the success of those segments motivated NBC to give the clay duo their own series in March of 1957.

But along with that show, he also created opening titles for several other NBC programs in the late 1950s, including "The Dinah Shore Show" and "Fibber McGee And Molly." And then there is this NBC station ID, which reportedly so freaked out the network executive who commissioned it that it was buried deep in the NBC vault.

The promo is certainly insanely odd, and can best be described as what you would get if you combined Gumby and Pokey with an animated LSD overdose.
