Time Warner Shares Slump After Weak Earnings Forecast

Time Warner shares dropped on Wednesday after executives told investors in a conference call that 2016 earnings would likely be $5.25 a share, below what analysts following the company had expected.

Time Warner Inc. owns cable channels such as CNN, TBS, and TNT, plus the pay TV channel HBO and the Warner Bros. movie and TV studio.

The news was the latest in a week in which both executives from Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox and the Walt Disney Co. warned investors that profits would not grow at the rate expected in 2016 due to a declining number of full pay-TV subscribers.

A similar fear of slumping pay TV subscriber numbers sparked a slump of media company stocks earlier this year.
