Golf Central’s Live From the Masters

Saturday, April 11, 2015, 7:15-9:15 p.m. ET (First Hour)

Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga.

Golf Channel World Headquarters, Orlando, Fla.

On Saturday’s third round at the Masters

Brandel Chamblee – “I can’t remember a more exciting Saturday in a major championship. What a great day it was.”

Frank Nobilo – “If you looked at most scorecards it was a lovely blend of everything. A double here, six or seven birdies there, another couple of bogeys.  It was amazing.  This completely changed with an hour and a half to go. You saw different names come up the leaderboard, charges were going left, right and center.  It was almost like a Geiger counter going up and down.”

Colin Montgomerie – “I was commentating for the British networks, so tense at the end. Amazing.  I was talking to my producer and they were saying, ‘Just shut up Monty and let the tension, let the atmosphere just soak up.’ I’ve heard that a lot of times in my life.”

On Jordan Spieth, third-round leader by four shots at 16-under-par

Chamblee – “To see somebody bounce back from adversity, well, that is the mark of a champion.”

Nobilo – “After a double at 17, more than a band aid was required on 18. That was a gut check for Jordan Spieth.”

Chamblee – “The lead can evaporate in a hurry around this place. It’s far from over, but this is a very experienced 21-year old that is playing in the final group on Sunday.”

Tripp Isenhour –  “This is a huge feather in his cap because Jordan learned a lot last year.  He knows it is going to be tough. He is not going to be surprised by anything on Sunday being in the final group.”

Isenhour – “I look at the 18th hole today as the big turning point. Had he not gotten that ball up and down, I think he would be a different Jordan Spieth on the first tee tomorrow. That huge save will do wonders for his confidence tomorrow.”

Arron Oberholser – “His ability to bounce back is what makes him the ultimate favorite tomorrow.”

On Justin Rose, in second place at 12-under-par

Frank Nobilo – “Over the years we have talked about how good a bunker player he is. Maybe good should be changed to great.”

Nobilo – “He has played well here in the past over certain rounds. We have been waiting for this to happen here at Augusta.”

Brandel Chamblee – “Justin reminds me of Nick Faldo in so many different ways.  Time and time again, when you have to hit shots, he has been up to the task. He is an underrated player around the greens and brilliant out of the bunkers. The one thing that has held him back that Nick Faldo did have, was great putting, and he just hasn’t been able to bring that to Augusta National, but he did today. If he brings it tomorrow, he may walk away with the Green Jacket and continue on this major climb.”

Colin Montgomerie – “Justin tomorrow has to hole the putts that have to go in.  He has got to get the reward for super iron shots and he has got to keep with it all day. He cannot make mistakes, because with that par at the last, that gave Jordan huge extra momentum.  Justin has to hole out better than he has in the past.”

On Phil Mickelson, in third place at 11-under-par

Chamblee – “If Phil goes on to win, that putt on 16 just might make the highlight reel as the putt that spurned him on.”

Chamblee – “This has been 3,4,5 months of progress for Phil.  He is in the final group, he is within touch of the lead.  Everything you would ever want you saw it in Phil today.”

Nobilo – “He continues to improve.  He played 7 out of the last 10 weeks to try to get himself ready.  He has done everything possible to try to get him into contention this week.”

On Tiger Woods, T5 at 6-under-par

Nobilo – “At the start of the week, the talk was could he even make the cut. After today, in contention.”

Lerner – “This is a great step back after nine weeks away.”

Montgomerie – “I think it has been a superb performance. Golf is a better place with him out there. I didn’t think it was going to be this good. Only one person thought that he would be, and that was him.”

Montgomerie – “There are instances of brilliance followed by instances of not quite right. But it has been fantastic to see him out there competing. Tomorrow he is playing with his good friend Rory McIlroy and playing in the third to final group. That will be exciting for him and exciting for us all.”

Nobilo – “One of the neat things about seeing him back is the competitive skills. Tiger Woods is reminding us this week that he hasn’t lost the will to compete.”

Chamblee – “Ben Crenshaw and Jordan Spieth were joined by Tiger Woods in a practice round on the back nine. Everyone was amazed at how well Tiger Woods was hitting every single shot on the back nine. Would have beaten Jordan by four or five shots in nine holes. They all agreed that Tiger was back.”

Chamblee – “Golf is a lot more fun when he is around on the leaderboard doing what he did today for the better part of the day.”
