Larry The Cable Guy Defends Norm Macdonald: 'He Lives In A Free Country'

Today on his SiriusXM show "The Weekly Roundup With Larry The Cable Guy," Larry the Cable Guy defended fellow comedian Norm Macdonald.

"Norm just…speaks his mind," Larry said. "He lives in a free country, he knows he does."

"I mean, funny is funny. Funny is comedy out of tragedy. That's the definition of comedy and some people did comedy out of tragedy, and some people just do funny because they want to be funny," he added, before pointing out the Lenny Bruce used to be supported. "I remember when the left, man, they used to defend that stuff. They're defending it, but all of a sudden if there's a comedian going up and saying something that is swimming upstream, something that they're not saying…then boy, you get shunned and it's ridiculous."

It's like this whole thing with Norm Macdonald. Norm Macdonald, is a super nice guy, and he's a smart guy, and he's a funny comedian. I've never, I've only met maybe, I've don't think I've even met Norm, but I've always liked his comedy. But you know, he's going on, but Norm just says he speaks his mind. He lives in a free country, he knows he does. I mean, there's nothing wrong with saying what you want to say. I mean he's not hurting anybody. But boy, just, you know, this whole, this whole thing of you better not say anything about this topic or the super left will ban you. I mean, it starting to seep into comedy when they start dictating what you can say and can't say. And then they'll say it like this. I've seen posts like this. “Well, if you can't adjust your act to the times, what good a comedian are you...” So, I mean, it doesn't make any sense. I mean, funny is funny. Funny is comedy out of tragedy. That's the definition of comedy and some people did comedy out of tragedy, and some people just do funny because they want to be funny. I mean there's all different kinds of comedians and when you go on stage and tell jokes, that's what your job is. But man, when you start monitoring what your comedians are saying… I mean, when Lenny Bruce used to go up and -- I mean I remember when the left, man, they used to defend that stuff. They're defending it, but all of a sudden if there's a comedian going up and saying something that is in swimming upstream, something that they're not saying that, then boy, you get shunned and it's ridiculous. And you know what? I don't buy into it. I'm not going to buy into it, and I could care less. I mean, I'm a free American, and I'm a standup comedian and I'm going to do a joke on this and I don't care what name you want to call me. Let capitalism decide what's good and what's bad. I mean, you're right, Maral. It's like I'm not a big fan of Bill Maher. I'm not a big fan of some of these other lefty comedians, but they have every right to tell their jokes and put out their ideas just as much as I do or anybody else does. And if you find them funny, then hey more power to you, but if you don't find them funny, here's what you do. You don't listen to them and they're not part of your life.
